1. No space
Do you find yourself bumping into your family as you move your way around the kitchen? Maybe you’re waiting in line for the bathroom each morning? You feel like a caged animal with no room to stretch your legs. Your home has passed maximum capacity… time to move.
2. Upgrade
It turns out you are addicted to Pinterest and your wall is full of projects you could never conquer in your current home. Not only that, your house makes you feel like you took a time machine back to the 60’s. Do yourself a favor and ditch the old so you can bring in the new.
3. Empty nest
Okay, so you are in your early fifties and your kids have all moved on to university. Sure, they visit you every third weekend but, for not so little Johnny, moving back home isn’t an option. Your 5 bedroom home has a utility bill you have no business paying for.
4. Retirement
The bitter-sweet next step. You’ve been an empty nester for so long your kids are almost empty nesters as well. Home is where the heart is but your heart isn’t into mowing the lawn once a week in the summer and hurting your back shoveling through the winters. You’re not old, you are just wise. In fact, you are wise enough to sell that home and move into a townhome that is maintenance free.
5. Tight finances
The utility bill is becoming ridiculous and each month the savings account continues to drain. You’re working so hard each month but you are realizing you may have bought a little more house than you can afford at the moment. Instead of stressing, how about downsizing? Or better yet, buy something similar in the next town over for 30% less.
6. Realize the dream
You always wanted that country dream home at the edge of town, but you’ve always just been too busy to move. Well, there is no time like the present right? Take that vacation time you’ve been hoarding and make the move before your best years pass you by.
7. Crime
You are working overtime on neighborhood watch duty and sirens seem to routinely wake you up at 2am. The garage was broken into last week too huh? That’s no neighborhood to raise a family! Get out of there before something serious happens.
8. Cash in time
Are you the one person that is seeing their 30-year mortgage to the end? Are you in the final years of paying off your home? Maybe it’s time to cash in on your investment so you can finally take that trip to Paris you put off since 87′.
9. Divorce
The sad but true fact is, 50% of marriages end in divorce. Chances are, things are going to get ugly… just do yourself a favor and sell your assets so you can split the cash down the middle. The less time you spend fighting over who gets what, the more time you get to bounce back and enjoy life again.
10. Just Because
This may be the most important reason of them all. Do it for you! You don’t have to have a perfect reason to move. Sometimes the best excuse to get going is just because you want to.
